Washington, DC – Today, the NetChoice Coalition commended the Department of Justice’s decision to file a lawsuit against the National Association of Realtors (NAR). The Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division filed a lawsuit against NAR today challenging a policy that obstructs real estate brokers who use innovative Internet-based tools to offer better services and lower costs to consumers. In response, NetChoice executive director Steve DelBianco made the following statement:
“The Justice Department has been patient with the Realtors thus far, but NAR just won’t take the hint.
NAR rules effectively become the guidelines that state licensing use to determine who can buy and sell real estate. This is a case of the big brokers using their state licensing leverage to restrict the competition, innovation, and discounting made possible by the internet and new technologies. “
