Entrepreneurs have successfully leveraged the Internet to earn extra money from sharing their assets, selling their goods, and offering gig economy services. This growing class of entrepreneurs continues to expand and has quickly caught the ire of legacy, entrenched businesses focused on stopping new competition to protect market share. As the FTC moves forward on its research on the sharing economy, we encourage policies that promote innovation and competition. We also look forward to discussing how we can enable these growing class of entrepreneurs to access benefits that have traditionally only been via a 20th century employer-employee model via new and compelling ways that can keep up with the disruption we are seeing across industries.
