Senate Attaches Internet Sales Tax to Federal Budget Process

NetChoice Opposes Procedural Effort to Curtail Meaningful Debate on New Internet Tax

Washington, D.C. – In the course of preparing the FY 2014 Federal Budget, Senators will consider an amendment that would endorse the establishment of a new Internet sales tax. NetChoice issued the following statement in response.

“Levying a new tax on Internet sales deserves an honest conversation about the real impact on businesses across the country,” said Steve DelBianco, executive director of NetChoice. “It seems that every day more folks are sounding the alarm over the added complexity, costs and inequality that the Marketplace Fairness Act will impose. Including a vote on any Internet sales tax provision as part of the federal budget process confuses the issue and disguises the motives of Internet tax advocates.”
