Bad news about phishing scams. Crooks looking to steal personal information online might be having better luck than anyone thought. According to a new University of Indiana study, scammers are getting takers on as much as 14 percent of their trick messages, a much higher percentage than previous estimates by network security watchers.
Better news for online gamblers, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee has introduced a bill that would replace the current blanket prohibition on Internet gambling with new regulations, including criminal background checks and financial disclosure, on Internet gambling companies. "The existing legislation is an inappropriate interference on the personal freedom of Americans and this interference should be undone," Frank said.
