BNA Bloomberg – New York Plan Extends Sales Tax Requirements to Online Marketplaces
‘‘This legislation would impose new tax obligations only on marketplaces with a physical presence in NewYork,’’ Steve DelBianco, executive director of NetChoice, told Bloomberg BNA in an e-mail.
‘‘But I can’t imagine any online marketplace that would maintain physical presence in the state if it meant exposing itself and all of its sellers to New York’s sky-high sales tax rate and compliance burdens,’’ he said. ‘‘After all, it’s not difficult to relocate the physical assets needed to run an electronic marketplace.’’
