Call for national cyber-security standards

BusinessWeek.com reports that a cyber-security industry group is asking Congress to pass a federal law that would replace the hodgepodge of state laws governing the disclosure of lost and stolen consumer data. The Cyber Security Industry Alliance says a federal law would promote higher cyber-security standards and better online privacy protection.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post has a story about complaints from privacy advocates about Google’s proposed purchase of online ad firm DoubleClick. In a complaint filed with the Federal Trade Commission the Electronic Privacy Information Center charges that the deal would create a company with access to more information about consumer Internet activities than any other in the world.
