Some good news from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) annual meeting in Boston this week. The National Retail Federation (NRF) failed in yet another attempt to get legislators to pin the blame for employee theft and shoplifting on e-commerce. Legislators from 30 states unanimously rejected an amendment to a proposed policy statement that would have admonished e-commerce sites such s eBay, Amazon, Yahoo, and Microsoft to work harder to shut down organized retail theft operations.
Blaming lousy security and rampant employee theft on "e-fencing" is like blaming puddles for causing rain! The big retailers behind NRF should spend more money on theft prevention and spend less time picking fights with the e-commerce industry.
