What's wrong with setting the same cyber-security standard for government as well as the private sector?

The Cyber Security Industry Alliance (CSIA) has endorsed the recommendations of a presidential task force that wants a national standard for private sector data protection, but faulted the task force failing to recommend a similar national standard for the public sector.

Meanwhile, National Journal Technology Daily (subscription required) reports that James Lewis, director of the technology and public policy program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies told an FTC workshop earlier this week that both the government and private sector should play a role in developing authentication standards and improving identity security.Lewis pointed to the question of liability if authentication credentials are misused as a particularly difficult challenge.
