Today, NetChoice applauded California consumers for approving Proposition 22, the “App-Based Drivers as Contractors and Labor Policies Initiative.” This referendum ballot initiative will enable gig workers to remain independent contractors and adopt labor and wage policies that support their chosen profession.
“By ensuring drivers can be independent contractors, Proposition 22 will protect workers’ freedom, flexibility, and higher take-home pay. Proposition 22 will empower gig workers to work part-time for multiple peer-to-peer services, be available for other jobs, and earn more,” said Steve DelBianco, President of NetChoice.
“I applaud the consumers of California for their good sense to protect the rights of gig workers and independent contractors. Other states should pay attention as citizens clearly want to empower independent contractors instead of classifying everyone as employees, whether they like it or not,” said DelBianco.
