Biden Tries to Slice Up Apple, Undermining Consumer Preferences With New DOJ Lawsuit

WASHINGTON—Today, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division (DOJ) announced it will be launching a new lawsuit against Apple, one of America’s most popular and trusted technology companies.

This new lawsuit against Apple is yet another example of the Biden administration using antitrust law as a weapon to attack U.S. businesses that Americans love, trust and value, knowing full well that the case will likely fail in court. Biden’s regulators view the process itself as the punishment, as litigation will take years to resolve, and it will cost Apple significant resources to defend itself.

“Apple clearly isn’t harming consumers as Americans consistently rank it as one of the most trusted companies in the world. This is another hopeless lawsuit from Biden’s ideologues showing his administration isn’t protecting Americans but instead is focused on advancing a progressive agenda to undermine successful U.S. companies,” said Carl Szabo, NetChoice Vice President & General Counsel. “And as usual with Biden’s progressive antitrust agenda, the real losers are Americans.”

The result of this costly litigation will in the end harm American consumers the most. Research, development and innovation at Apple will be hindered due to high legal costs and fears that such improvements benefiting consumers would cause an activist DOJ to pursue the company further. This may also cause other U.S. businesses to proceed with fear and caution, taking the focus away from benefiting consumers.

It’s disappointing to see the Biden administration and DOJ continue down this path. NetChoice hopes the White House will put down its axe that is hacking away at U.S. businesses and work with them instead to ensure America’s continued prominence in innovation.
