Today, NetChoice announced its opposition to the introduction of Arkansas SB 470. This bill mirrors the federally proposed INFORM Consumers Act—imposing liability on e-commerce platforms for illegal goods sold online despite the brunt of illegal goods sales happening offline.
“These burdensome requirements would punish Arkansas’s small businesses struggling amidst a pandemic,” said Carl Szabo, Vice President and General Counsel for NetChoice. “This bill treats small businesses online as criminals but does nothing to address organized retail crime, which remains largely an offline problem.”
“Big box stores pushing this bill will chase mom-and-pop stores offline, further damaging America’s struggling small businesses,” continued Szabo.
