NetChoice Applauds Sen. Cruz’s AI Leadership with the Introduction of the SANDBOX Act

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced the Strengthening Artificial intelligence Normalization and Diffusion By Oversight and eXperimentation (SANDBOX) Act, the first major federal legislative proposal to secure America’s global leadership in artificial intelligence.

“Senator Cruz is showing true leadership in AI policy in recognizing both the promise of artificial intelligence and the risks posed by heavy-handed government regulation,” said Amy Bos, Director of State and Federal Affairs. “The SANDBOX Act is a forward-looking framework that embraces America’s entrepreneurial spirit, cuts red tape, and ensures that bureaucracy does not define the future of American-made AI.”

AI has the potential to add trillions of dollars to global GDP annually, powering unprecedented growth and securing America’s technological dominance. But achieving that future requires policies that empower developers and innovators rather than hamstring them with outdated rules.

“Sen. Cruz’s SANDBOX Act is exactly the kind American innovation-first approach that will keep us ahead of global rivals like China,” Bos continued. “By giving AI developers room to experiment while preserving necessary safeguards, the SANDBOX Act strikes an important balance. This legislation represents a critical step toward ensuring the values that shape AI are American values.”

NetChoice applauds Sen. Cruz for introducing the SANDBOX Act and looks forward to working with Congress to ensure America remains the world’s leader in AI innovation, deployment, and economic growth.
