NetChoice Opposes “Trust-Busting for the Twenty-First Century Act”

Today, NetChoice announced opposition to Senator Hawley’s (R-MO) “Trust-Busting for the Twenty-First Century Act” — a bill that if enacted would overturn the consumer welfare standard and make it easier to prosecute businesses.

“In a thinly veiled attempt to beat up on America’s successful tech businesses, this bill misses the mark and would enable progressives to regulate every sector of our economy for grievances like climate change or income inequality,” said Carl Szabo, Vice President and General Counsel of NetChoice.

“Just as we’re digging ourselves out of COVID-19, this bill would undermine America’s economic recovery and balloon our government’s bureaucracy and power,” continued Szabo. “By pushing America to follow Europe’s antitrust approach, this bill would inhibit the American Dream by slowing economic growth, weakening the job market, and eliminating choices for consumers.”
