NetChoice Warns Against Merger Moratorium Bill
Today, NetChoice warned against the “Pandemic Anti-Monopoly Act” from Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez. The bill, currently only outlined in a press release from Sen. Warren (D-MA), would prohibit job-saving mergers and acquisitions during the coronavirus-triggered economic crisis.
“The bill prioritizes an anti-businesses ideology over protecting American jobs. In hard economic times, often the only way to save a business and the jobs it provides is to seek investment from larger market players,” said Carl Szabo, Vice President, NetChoice. “The bill’s effect would be to force businesses to go bankrupt rather than merge with a successful market player.”
“This bill would expedite the collapse of small, struggling businesses, leading to more unemployed Americans and closing workplaces.”
