Senate Should Give Law Enforcement Resources to Prosecute Predators, Support Educational Initiatives

WASHINGTON—Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on “Children’s Safety in the Digital Era.”

“We commend the Senators for examining this important issue for families nationwide. To ensure predators and cybercriminals harming children online are off the internet and off the streets, NetChoice strongly encourages the committee to support the Invest in Child Safety Act. This critical bill will give law enforcement the resources they need to prosecute these criminals and put them behind bars,” said Amy Bos, NetChoice Director of State & Federal Affairs.More than 99% of cyber tips to NCMEC go without investigation due to limited resources. Stopping digital crimes against children means giving police the tools to put predators in prison.

Bos continued: “NetChoice also encourages lawmakers to adopt other portions of our SHIELD framework, especially passing a national privacy standard and supporting public awareness campaigns on the safety resources available to parents right now to protect their children online. They also should support strong state initiatives for digital safety education in the classroom, like we’ve seen from Florida and Virginia.”
