WHOIS stalemate

Information Week has a report on this week’s release of the ICANN WHOIS Working Group report that leaves the long  battle over access to WHOIS data at a stalemate. The conflict pits individuals and groups that favor privacy protections against organizations and law enforcement agencies that favor data access in order to protect intellectual property and fight cybercrime. Caught in the middle are Internet domain registrars that have to balance customer data protection demands with data access requirements mandated by ICANN.
