NetChoice Applauds House Energy and Commerce Proposal to Pave the Way for American AI Entrepreneurs

WASHINGTON—Last night, the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee released its reconciliation proposal, including provisions to modernize the government and establish a moratorium on state-level artificial intelligence rules, which would supercharge America’s AI development.

This year, state legislatures proposed more than 1,000 bills to regulate American AI development. This massive patchwork would crush U.S. innovators under an avalanche of regulation and kneecap us from being able to effectively compete in this critical technology with global rivals like China. House Energy and Commerce’s proposal is commendable and will help America stay first in the research and development of emerging technologies.

“America can’t lead the world in new technologies like AI if we tie the hands of innovators with overwhelming red tape before they can even get off the ground. NetChoice applauds Chairman Brett Guthrie and House Energy and Commerce’s leadership to ensure U.S. technology remains number one in the world,” said Patrick Hedger, NetChoice Director of Policy.

Hedger continued: “Ultimately, the 119th Congress should pass AI legislation in line with the principles outlined by the House AI Task Force Report from last year. Following this framework would ensure widespread AI investment, innovation and adoption with clear rules of the road at the federal level. The AI race is one America simply cannot afford to lose.
