NetChoice Applauds Strong Defense of Antitrust Law in Epic-Apple App Store Suit
Today, NetChoice simultaneously applauded Apple’s defense of its innovative app ecosystem and opposed Epic Games’ lawsuit and misuse of antitrust law.
“By going after the Apple App Store, Epic Games is refusing to play fair and respect the same rules as all developers. In their attempt to warp antitrust law to serve their business interests, Epic Games could undermine an innovative ecosystem that helped create the hypercompetitive app economy,” said Carl Szabo, Vice President and General Counsel at NetChoice.
“As shown in court today, Epic Games has yet to show evidence of consumer harm and fails to show why Apple’s App Store is a monopoly, despite it competing with other online games stores, like those run by Microsoft, Google, Sony, and even Epic Games itself.”
“Apple’s defense illustrates a commitment to an ecosystem that fosters competition, user ease, and up-and-coming developers. In-app purchasing, parental controls, family sharing, historic records, and more all flourish alongside Apple’s commitment to the safety and security of its users.”
