WASHINGTON—Today, the European Union dropped its plans for a harmful digital tax on American companies due to President Donald Trump’s consistent leadership on the issue. This marks a significant victory for U.S. innovation, digital freedom and global economic growth, and NetChoice applauds the administration for this victory.
“President Trump’s unwavering commitment to protecting American businesses from burdensome and discriminatory taxes abroad has yielded another crucial win for the digital economy. Success should be celebrated—not punished,” said Patrick Hedger, NetChoice Director of Policy. “The EU’s reversal on its proposed digital services tax is a clear recognition that such measures stifle innovation, harm consumers and undermine the principles of free enterprise that have allowed digital services to flourish.”
This outcome demonstrates the positive impact of strong international diplomacy in preventing policies that would disproportionately target and penalize American companies for their success. We thank the President and his administration for their leadership.
NetChoice remains committed to working with policymakers to ensure that free enterprise and free expression are protected online.
