We submitted comments to the Office of Science and Technology Policy advocating for modernizing federal policies and infrastructure to maintain U.S. technological leadership against competitors like the European Union. Emphasizing that AI is the critical differentiator for future discovery, we proposed specific reforms, such as expanding energy capacity through nuclear power and grid modernization, to support the massive computing demands.
We also urged the government to revise federal grant guidelines to treat cloud computing costs with financial parity to physical equipment, promote federated learning to utilize siloed data and we encouraged the full funding of the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) to purchase private sector resources rather than building government-operated centers.
