In its latest budget proposal to Congress, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requested a 400 percent increase in its funding for FY2024.
“Instead of throwing more money and authority at the FTC, Congress must exercise the power of the purse to rein in this rogue agency,” said NetChoice Vice President & General Counsel Carl Szabo. “Lina Khan has spent her time as FTC Chair violating the agency’s legal obligations and wasting taxpayer dollars on frivolous lawsuits, and rewarding her with more funding would be like giving a kid dessert after they get caught stealing cookies.”
Szabo continued: “The FTC is currently being accused of morphing into a wasteland of biased, partisan group think. The agency’s own staff doesn’t like its direction. Handing Khan more money would only embolden her to beat up businesses she doesn’t like and seize more (likely unconstitutional) power for the agency. Congress must not let this continue, and lawmakers should not reward this type of contempt for American freedoms with a buyout.”
