NetChoice Amicus Letter Supporting Google’s Petition for Writ of Mandate in Haynie v. Google

NetChoice filed an amicus letter supporting Google’s petition for a writ of mandate. NetChoice’s letter notes that California’s Unruh Act was enacted to counter invidious discrimination. Google’s personalized ad matching by age does not fit the bill. Targeted ad matching by age is both permissible under Unruh (to provide relevant ads to the relevant markets — e.g., AARP ads to seniors, educational ads to the young) and protected by the First Amendment.
