WASHINGTON—The Trump administration just released its new American AI Exports program to help American companies continue to lead the world in technological innovation.

AI is moving fast and accelerating. In this quickly-evolving landscape, a month of regulatory hesitation can lead to a decade of lost progress. While we must be clear-eyed about the challenges of the future, we cannot afford to let bureaucratic delay become a self-imposed barrier to our success. Every day that a U.S. company is held back by red tape is a day that our adversaries gain ground.
The stakes are not merely economic; they are geopolitical. If America does not lead in providing the world with AI tools built on foundations of free enterprise and free expression, the vacuum will be filled by the Chinese Communist Party and its export of digital authoritarianism. To cede the global marketplace to Beijing because of domestic inertia would be a generational mistake.
